If you thought I was sick and tired about writing about basketball then you should guess again. This week the Milwaukee Bucks took down the Phoenix Suns to win the 2021 NBA Finals after overcoming a 2-0 series deficit......and I'm already over it lets talk about a real team. Today I am going to talk about the Lakers offseason (I am heavily considering applying to write for the Lakers after this class I really love it). Lets review some of the top trending rumors and I will give my thoughts on them and let you know if I approve of them.

One of the top trending offseason rumors in all of basketball is that Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony will join the Lakers and the Banana Boat Squad will come together - if you do not know what the Banana Boat Squad is, Lebron James, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony went on vacation together and were literally on a Banana Boat together. Overall I partially approve of this rumor. I would really like Chris Paul to come to the Lakers because of the way he led the Thunder in 2020 and the Suns in 2021 way further than they should have went. He has proven that he is still in his prime and I think him and Lebron will have excellent chemistry together. However, I am not a fan at all of Carmelo Anthony joining the team. Melo is way out of his prime and does not have the same shot making ability he once had, but still shoots the ball a ridiculous amount. He would not fit what we are trying to make happen in Los Angeles.

The next rumor actually just came out today and it is that DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry are interested in joining the Lakers. Again, I partially approve of this rumor. I respect DeMar DeRozan and think he is a great player, but he does not fit this team at all. The Lakers are desperate to improve their 3-point shooting and while DeRozan is a fantastic shooter, he really only shoots midrange shots and does not have much 3-point range. The part that I do like is Kyle Lowry. Lowry played a major role in leading the Raptors to their championship over the Warriors in 2019. He is an excellent facilitator and can knock down the 3-point shots when we need them. I think he would be an excellent player for the Lakers to get (if we can get him for cheap).

The last rumor I will discuss is that the Lakers will be going for Russell Westbrook. I think this will be an absolutely catastrophic mistake if the Lakers end up following through on this. Westbrook has shown all throughout his career that he just cannot be a winner even when surrounded with superstars. He could not win on the Thunder with Kevin Durant and James Harden. He underachieved with Paul George on the Thunder, James Harden on the Rockets, and with Bradley Beal on the Wizards. His inefficiency as a offensive player, mixed with his extreme ball-dominance, and sprinkled with his stat-padding his brings a very toxic environment to a team and I do not want him anywhere near my Lakers.

I am very excited to see what unfolds this offseason. Hopefully we can make some great moves and bring back the championship trophy next year. Go Lakers!

  1. I love your enthusiasm when it comes to basketball. I don't know too much about the politics of the sport or the behind the scenes of it all, (I mainly just know how it works). But, this article was really interesting to find out more!
